Full Bio
Danyel Brewer is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Certified Dietitian Nutritionist, and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant whose work centers on compassionate, client-centered nutrition care. Her professional experience spans a variety of clinical and community settings, including the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), a birthing center, a food bank, and residential substance use treatment.
Danyel has particular experience in maternal and infant nutrition, prenatal and postpartum care, lactation and breastfeeding support, pediatrics, gestational diabetes, mindful eating, disease prevention, and nutrition support for individuals experiencing mental health challenges or recovering from substance use disorders. Her diverse background has shaped an approach that recognizes the many factors that can influence a person's relationship with food, including mental health, access to nutritious foods, family circumstances, and life experiences.
Danyel earned her degree in Dietetics and Nutrition Sciences from Buffalo State College in 2008. Her training included experience in hospitals, nursing homes, and community nutrition programs. She became a Certified Lactation Counselor in 2009 and earned the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential in 2013 while working with the WIC program. In 2015, she completed specialized training in childhood and adolescent weight management.
Throughout her career, Danyel has combined nutrition education with a supportive and encouraging approach to care. She uses motivational interviewing to help clients identify realistic, sustainable changes that support their larger health goals. Rather than focusing solely on weight, she considers how nutrition can contribute to overall physical and emotional well-being.
Her work in substance use recovery has further informed this philosophy. Danyel has helped individuals explore how nutrition can support areas such as sleep, cravings, mental well-being, and rebuilding a more balanced relationship with food during recovery. She also brings a trauma-informed perspective to her work and is sensitive to the challenges faced by individuals experiencing food insecurity or mental health concerns.
Maternal and infant health is another important part of Danyel's professional background. As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, she has extensive experience supporting breastfeeding families and helping parents work toward feeding goals through compassionate, evidence-based guidance.
Beyond individual nutrition counseling, Danyel has experience facilitating interactive education and workshops related to nutrition and breastfeeding. Her professional work has also been featured through the Buffalo News and the University at Albany School of Public Health Breastfeeding Grand Rounds.
Danyel believes nutrition care should meet people where they are. Her goal is to provide practical, evidence-based guidance while helping clients develop sustainable habits that support both their physical and emotional well-being.
